Spring 1999: Jakob Nyström, Jakob Moström and Daniel Berglund got together to record some songs on their 8-track. Jakob and Jakob had written some songs seperately and now they intended to make them reality together. The idea was just to fulfill the potential of each individual song and not to care whether they fit together. There were, after all, no plans to record an album or even start a band at this point. The results were surprisingly good and to make rehearsals easier they invited Daniel's younger brother Anton to play bass. July 1999: 12 songs were recorded at Jakob Nyström's parents house in Sävar, much to the annoyance of their neighbors. A friend at Chalksounds Records wanted to release a 7" from that session so the band was christianed "Isolation Years", a line in the title song from the EP called "Idiot Pilgrimage". The band added Mats Hammarström on piano/organ for live performances and later he joined the band as a steady member. After a few shows Isolation Years gained a growing reputation for delivering atmospheric yet powerful pop music. Pressure from friends and fans convinced the band to aim for the world outside mid-northern Sweden. June 2000: Some 15 chosen songs were recorded in their homemade studio with the intention to release them by themselves if nobody else cared. Fortunately the recordings turned out excellent and somebody cared a whole lot. 2001: Shows in Stockholm and some summer festivals were played and the recordings were mixed and mastered for a release on Stickman Records. The album was titled “Inland Traveller”. 2002: Lots of shows in Sweden, one tour through Germany and a tour of Germany and Holland followed. The “Talkin’ Backwards” EP was released in February. 2003: The dreaded second album, “It’s Golden”, is recorded and released, and it’s a masterpiece! Great press and alot of touring through Scandinavia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland followed. The video to “Open Those Eyes” was spotted on MTV Nordic and Onyx, as well as the song receiving alot of radio airplay all over Europe. This year also hailed the release of "Inland Traveller" in the US on the small independent label "Galaxy Gramophone". Shortly before the end of the year, the EP "Frosted Minds" is released in Sweden by MNW. 2005: "Cover the Distance" is released and receives rave reviews all across Europe. The album is followed by extensive touring and a ton of interviews for the european press. The past: Jakob and Jakob have known each other since early childhood. Daniel and Anton Berglund teamed up with Jakob N. in Sävar (a town outside of Umeå) in the mid-80's. They played together in various constellations ranging from cheezypop to hardcore. The Berglunds have a history in hc-bands like Abhinanda and Eclipse, but learned their skills by accompanying their father in the chapels and churches arounds the area. Jakob M. sleeps with his tape-echo and likes spaghetti westerns while Jakob N. listens to psychedelia and enjoys playing the saw. Daniel used to drum for Komeda and is now practising on the trumpet and Anton plays accordion and is currently learning the euphonium. And last but not least, Mats is an excellent guitar player and sound engineer but is currently playing the piano. The future: looking bright. Updated on August 10, 2006 Deutsche Version: Frühling 1999: Jakob Nyström, Jakob Moström und Daniel Berglund finden sich zusammen und nehmen ein paar Songs auf ihrem 8-Spurgerät auf. Die beiden Jakobs hatten unabhängig voneinander ein paar Songs geschrieben und wollten sie nun verwirklichen, ohne aber darauf zu achten, ob sie zusammenpassen, sondern vielmehr um zu versuchen, das Potential aus jedem Einzelnen herauszuholen. Somit bestanden auch keine Pläne ein Album aufzunehmen oder sogar eine Band zu gründen. Die Ergebnisse sind jedoch so überraschend gut, daß sie Daniels jüngeren Bruder als Bassspieler dazuholen, um das Proben zu erleichtern. Juli 1999: Sehr zum Verdruß der Nachbarn, nehmen sie zwölf Lieder in Jakob Nyströms Elternhaus auf, die auch gleich von einem Freund von Ckalksound Records als 7’’ veröffentlicht werden wollten. Sie nennen sich also, nach einer Textzeile in dem Titelsong der EP „Idiot Pilgrimage“, Isolation Years. Für Liveauftritte holen sie sich Mats Hammarström hinzu, der Klavier und Orgel spielen soll und auch bald zu einem festen Mitglied in der Band wird. So gewinnen sie durch ihre atmosphärische aber auch sehr powervolle Popmusik eine stetig wachsende Fangemeinschaft , die sie bald davon überzeugen können ihr Glück auch außerhalb von Mitt- und Nordschweden zu versuchen. Juni 2000: Mit der Intention die Songs eben selber zu veröffentlichen, wenn kein anderer will, nehmen sie 15 ausgewählte Songs in einem selbstgemachten Studio auf. Erfreulicherweise werden die Songs wahre Perlen und, ja, Jemand interessiert sich sehr wohl für diesen Schatz. 2001: Die Jungs spielen Shows in Stockholm und ein paar Sommerfestivals und die Aufnahmen werden gemixt und fertiggestellt für ein Release auf Stickman Records. „Inland Traveller“ war geboren. 2002: Es folgen viele Shows in Schweden und Touren durch Deutschland und Holland. Die „Talkin’ Backwards“ EP wird im Februar veröffentlicht. 2003: Das gefürchtete zweite Album wird aufgenommen, veröffentlicht – und ein Meisterwerk! „It’s Golden“ wird belohnt mit viel positiver Presse, das Video zur Single „Open Those Eyes“ wird auf MTV Nordic (?) und Onyx gespielt und erhält zusätzlich noch eine Menge Radio Airplay. Touren durch Skandinavien, Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz folgen. Im gleichen Jahr wird „Inland Traveller“ auf dem kleinen Independent Label Galaxy Gramophon in den USA und die EP „Frosted Minds“ in Schweden von MNW veröffentlicht. 2005: „Cover The Distance“ wird veröffentlicht und erhält schwärmende Kritiken aus allen Ecken von Europa. Es folgen extensives Touren und jede Menge Interviews für die europäische Presse. In der Vergangenheit: Jakob und Jakob kennen sich schon seit frühester Kindheit. Daniel und Anton Berglund treffen Jakob N. in Sävar (eine kleine Stadt außerhalb von Umeå) Mitte der ’80iger und spielen zusammen in den verschiedensten Konstellationen von cheezigen Popliedern zu Hardcore. Die Berglund-Brüder haben schon vorher in Hardcore-Bands wie Abhinanda und Eclipse gespielt, ihre musikalischen Fertigkeiten aber bei Kirchenbesuchen mit ihrem Vater gelernt. Jakob M. schläft in einem Bett mit seinem Tape-Echo und mag Western, während Jakob N. psychedelische Musik hört und Säge spielt. Daniel spielte schon Schlagzeug in einer Band namens Komeda , versucht sich jetzt aber auch an der Trompete und übt da gleich zusammen mit Anton, der das Euphonium lernen möchte und nebenbei Akkordeon spielt. Mats ist ein exzellenter Gitarrist und Soundtüftler, der es aber gerade vorzieht Klavier zu spielen. In der Zukunft: alles rosig für Isolation Years |
