Black Cab is singer and programmer Andrew Coates and guitarist James Lee. They are joined both live and in the studio by a number of well known Australian musicians including drummer Richard Andrew (Registered Nurse, Underground Lovers, Crow), bassist Anthony Paine (High Pass Filter), programmer Steve Law (Zen Paradox), guitarist Alex Jarvis (Automatic, Alex Jarvis Band), and Ash Naylor (Even). Black Cab's sound is a heady brew of raw guitars, early '70's style drums, plus pulsing electronic and industrial audio treatments all combining to provide an eerie take on late '60's and early '70's American rock. Black Cab's first album, 'Altamont Diary' was released in Australia in late 2004, in the UK in Sept. 2005 and across Europe via Stickman Records in March 2006. 'Altamont Diary' received rave reviews around the world for it's inspired take on the fateful free concert at Altamont Speedway in late 1969. Black Cab's second album, 'Jesus East', was released in Australia in September 2006 and was nominated in the top 25 Australian albums for the 2006 Australian Music Prize. The band will also be touring Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland and Belgium in May 2007 to support the January '07 European release of 'Jesus East'. Ihr Sound ist eine berauschende Mischung aus rauen Gitarren und einem Schlagzeug, das an die frühen 70’er erinnert, schrägem Elektro- und Industrial Programming. Black Cab sind inspiriert vom Geist des Amerikas der späten 60’er und frühen 70’er. Die Anregung für das Debütalbum „Altamont Diary“ war das berühmt-berüchtigte Konzert der Rolling Stones am Altamont Speedway im Dezember 1969, welches auch im 1970 erschienenen Film „Gimme Shelter“ thematisiert wird. Für viele Anwesende beendeten dort die Hell’s Angels den „summer of love“, während die Stones einfach weiterspielten…. Als wäre „Altamont Diary“ der „evil bastard son“ von The Who’s „Tommy“, kann man hier ohne Scham von einem Konzeptalbum sprechen. Live spielen Black Cab mit großartigen Musikern von Registered Nurse, High Pass Filter, Zen Paradox und dem Solomusiker Alex Jarvis. Dieses fantastische Line-Up wird die Band auch bei den Aufnahmen zu ihrer nächsten Platte, die bereits für Anfang 2007 geplant ist, im Studio unterstützen. |
